The Lord uses words to bring people to Himself. Everyone who is a true Christian either read the gospel in the Bible, (or gospel literature) or heard the gospel through someone speaking. In my case, I got a Bible in the mail. God led me to read John and parts of Isaiah, and that is how He opened my eyes to see. Reading His Word, He gave me repentance and faith. That is how He saved me. I don’t really know exactly who addressed that Bible to me, and put it in the mail. But God used somebody. He used an ordinary Christian.
It is an amazing thing that it is His plan to use ordinary Christians to bring the message of salvation through Jesus Christ. This brings glory to Himself. The gospel is not about us, it is all about Him. It is not our message; it is God’s message. We have nothing to do with it; we just deliver the message. We get no glory, all the glory is God’s. Also, the results have nothing to do with us; we just share the message. It is the Lord that brings the results (whatever they may be), by His own power. This brings glory to God too.
Moses was an ordinary saint, just like you and I. God wanted Moses to open his mouth and deliver a message to Pharaoh. Moses squirmed and fussed to God. He did not feel qualified to do such a thing. Guess what? He was right. He had no ability to commend himself. He could not rely on “natural talent”. But God promised to help him, be with him and teach him what he should do and speak.
Maybe God wants you to mail a Bible to someone. Maybe He wants you to write down some scripture, and give it to someone. Maybe He wants you to verbally share the gospel with someone in your community. Maybe He wants you to preach Christ “open air”, on the street. He wants you to deliver His message.
But are you shy? Not a gifted speaker? Feel awkward in a social setting? Feel unsophisticated? Not one of the “glamorous people”? Are you a simple, ordinary Christian? Good. God wants to use you.
For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world, and the despised, God has chosen, the things that are not, that He might nullify the things that are, that no man should boast before God. 1 Cor.1:26-29.
