Leadership. Summit.

He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Phil2:8

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time.. 1Pe5:6

New Age Christianity teaches the exact opposite of what Jesus Christ said.

Leadership. Summit.

Pride. Self promotion. Making self High up. Claiming your place in the world system (as a leader). Covetousness (for position) and Selfishness. Wise in the eyes of the world. Mighty. Save self-life. Feigning humility in pride. Seeking followers. Obeying your dreams, visions, desires. Climbing high up the ladder to the mountain of Christian ministry and worldly success. Doing the will of your dreams and visions. A wide path. Serving 2 masters, “Self and God”.

Servant. Humble.

Meek. Self-denial. Making self lower. Detachment from the world system. Sacrifice and selflessness. “Foolish” in the eyes of the world. Weak. Lose life self-life. Humbling of self. Dying to self. Seeking Jesus Christ. Obeying Jesus Christ. Humbling self to death of self. Doing the will of the Father. A narrow path. Serving only one Master.

Right Before our Very Eyes

I remember, back when I was a young believer, when it seemed every Christian was passionate for God’s Word, when evangelism was a normal activity, and when false teaching was something that happened out there, hidden in the shadowy world of the New Agers and cults.

Now things are different. The New Agers have gone mainstream; popularizing their occult religion in every venue of our culture, from education to entertainment and the marketplace. What used to be found only in a crystal and incense filled Berkeley bookstore is now openly promoted throughout society. Even the main textbook for the foundation of my college major existed to mainstream the New Age. The world religions, the New Agers, secular humanists and the occult have come out from the underground and have normalized their worldview.

Now things are really different. Now we have many from within Christianity, joining in with what is now called the “New Spirituality”. I remember ten years ago when I walked into a bookstore, and saw a prominent display of John Shelby Spong’s book, Why Christianity Must Change or Die. Yes this was a liberal mainline skeptic’s manifesto. But something was up. Then a few years later he gave us A New Christianity for a New World: Why Traditional Faith is Dying and How a New Faith is Being Born. At that point, I realized that Protestant Christianity had joined with the New Age.

Today, ever increasing numbers of Evangelicals are now joining in with the skepticism, doubt and denial of the Word of God. They are speaking the same words as those in the New Spirituality. They have joined the New Faith. They have joined the One World Religion.

Just like God said would happen, thousands of years ago. We are seeing it unfold now, right before our very eyes.

Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostacy comes first, and the man of lawlesness is revealed, the son of destruction…2Thes.2:3.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires; and will turn away their ears from the truth, and will turn aside to myths. 2Tim.2:3-4.

But false prophets also arose among the people; just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them… 2Pe.2:1.

“Many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am Christ!’ and will mislead many.” Mark13:6.

And I saw another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spoke as a dragon. And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence. And he makes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast…Rev.13:11-12.

Encouragement for Evangelism

“We wouldn’t want to go out on the streets or knock on doors or anything! Nooooooo! Hahaha!”

Hundreds of people laughed nervously back in response to this, and in apparent agreement to what was just said. The announcement man continued, “We want to grow to 5000, as part of our ‘Vision 2010’. We want you bring in as many people as possible. Even through the back door if necessary.”

Sitting there, with everyone laughing at the unacceptable behavior witnessing “out on the street”, I felt so embarrassed and ashamed. I felt like a freak. Witnessing publicly to family, neighbors, and people I met in the community was a normal part of my life. Not just a habit. A longing, a desire, a burden. Now this church leader was shaming such “embarrassing” behavior, in favor of the marketing formula for church growth success.

Going out into all the world with the gospel is how the church has grown for 2000 years. That’s what Jesus had His disciples do. That’s what the church did in the book of Acts. And that’s what missions is all about.

When the announcement for Vision 2010 was first given, it was declared that part of the plan would be that by 2010, our church would start a new church somewhere on the Peninsula. I was so excited! I couldn’t wait to participate! That meant that the people would be trained in evangelism, we would pray to the Lord of the Harvest to fill us with His Spirit and give us boldness and compassion for the lost, and we would all be sent out into our community to bring the gospel to those who have not heard it….. right? And then we would gather the new believers into a new body, appoint pastor and elders, then disciple and teach the new believers everything that God has commanded in His Word….. right? Wrong.

When it came time to start the new church, the church leaders would go to a “how to start a church” seminar where they would learn how to start a church via experts in the church growth movement. They would be implementing corporate/business marketing and management methods. So the plan was to build the church themselves, by the wisdom and power of man. I kept thinking, “But Jesus said, ‘I will build My church.'”

This ordinary laborer was very discouraged by all this. Was I a freak? Was I alone? Was I completely un-hip to modern Evangelical trends? (No, no, and yes.) What about all those Bible verses about us going with the gospel to the lost and dying world? The Lord kindly provided a handful of dear saints for encouragement. Over time, I’ve met many evangelists and gospel laborers in who have a biblical view of the command to go out into the world with the gospel.

I’d like to feature here a few other evangelism sites which have witnessing stories, biblical training, encouragement and fellowship. This is just a sampling of the many brothers and sisters who want to encourage you in witnessing out in your world. Know that you are not a freak, you are not alone, and that biblical evangelism is nothing to be ashamed of.
