Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles: And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again. Mark 10:33-34
Realizing and rejecting traditional religious practices, that are not in the scriptures. Choosing spiritual truth over compromising lies of the flesh. Choosing to trust in God, humbly following Christ, rather than trusting in the power of the world empires. Choosing compassion and love, over pride and elitism. Choosing charity over greed. Choosing citizenship in the Kingdom of God over citizenship in the kingdoms of this world. Choosing to trust in God, and not in men of high title (“popes, priests and kings”). Rejecting Church+State cooperation, such as the “permission” given to the Church by the State to do anything. Rejecting the Church’s acceptance and support of war and killing (killing those without Christ whom we are to love and bring the gospel, and, killing fellow Christians whom we are to love and serve.) Questioning the authority of The Church and its clergy. Being labeled religious heretics and traitors of the State. Being put to death by theologians and Church leaders who hate God’s people and think they do God service…., (and this with State cooperation and involvement). This is the history of Christ’s sheep, down through time.
It happened with Jesus. It happened with His first disciples. And it repeats throughout church history, all the way to the end. Yes you are a part of this great drama. It is the Replay. It is a sad and beautiful story.
All that happened to Jesus at the end of His life shall happen to His people at the end of the age. These are things that have happened to our brethren all through church history. These are things that are happening now. Things that He did we also shall do, as a testimony and witness of the Truth. The suffering of Jesus, and His witness of Truth to religious and government authorities, shall replay out in us.
“You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be delivered up for crucifixion.” Matt.26:2
The Pharisees will accuse us and plot to kill us (Matt.12:14); we shall speak Truth to them (Matt.15:3). We will teach Truth to the multitudes of Church people (Matt.16:6) as well as those who follow closely our Lord Jesus (Matt.17:22-23). We will overturn the tables in the “temple” of the Institutional Church, upsetting their money game and the seats of those who sell out Jesus’ gentle doves (Matt.21:12). We will warn the multitudes and His disciples about the false teachings of the Religious Leaders (Matt. 23).
Then the chief priests and elders will gather together to finalize their plot to seize us and kill the threat (Matt.26:3). Then certain Church people will go to the Religious Leaders and make a deal to deliver the sheep into their hands for monetary gain (Matt.26:14-15). Some of our Church friends will deny they know us (Matt.26:34). We will know what is ahead of us, yet we will prepare spiritually and pray, “O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.” (Mat.26:39). Then the fake Christians will betray the true (Matt.26:48-49) to the leaders of the official Church. Then we will be stand trial before the court with the chief priests, the scribes and elders presiding(Matt.26:57). They will seek to prove we have broken the law and committed heresy and blasphemy, in order to put us to death(Matt.26:59).
We shall declare to them the Truth that God has given us to speak at that time, by the Holy Spirit, which shall give glory to God(Matt.26:64). The Religious Leaders will be enraged, and the accused shall be found guilty of blasphemy and idolatry. These shall be sentenced to death(Matt.26:65-66, Matt.27:1). We shall be bound and delivered to the secular officials(Matt.27:2). We shall be asked our true identity(Matt.27:11) and we shall declare it. Love will be the motivation for our response and witness. Like our Lord Jesus Christ, we shall be mocked, tortured, shamed, labeled and killed. Sad and beautiful.
In the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.
