Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. James1:27

Pure and undefiled religion:
Loves and cares for widows, orphans and poor and needy, especially among the brethren in Christ.
(Humbly and lovingly fulfilling the law of Christ.)

Corrupt and defiled religion:
Makes covenants and agreements with the political powers that be.
Works in cooperation with the spiritual enemies of Christ for mutual benefit.
Joins with the world.
Leads the saints to follow them rather than follow Christ.
Tells the saints to come to their Institutional Religion rather than come to Christ.
Manipulates and strives for positions of honor, power, prestige, preeminence, popularity, praise & prosperity.
Builds personal ecclesiastical kingdoms and seeks the honor of men.
Lays heavy legalistic burdens on the sheep.
Condemns the lost sinner and does not show or speak grace.
Lacks love for the blood bought sheep of Christ’s flock.
Does not care for the needs of the blood bought sheep of Christ’s flock.
Teaches the saints to deny the power of the Holy Spirit.
Teaches the saints to enjoy the world, have fun, and trust in their “free ticket to heaven”, rather than deny self, taking up cross and follow Jesus.
Teaches the saints that we must support the economic-religious-political crusades of war and whatever else the government says is ok.
Teaches the saints that our allegiance is to government or some political nation.
Expects poor widows and single mothers to pay them a money tithe instead of financially helping them.
Manipulates the flock to give them money.
Boasts in their connections to “important people”.
Glories in external righteousness, good works and “sacrifices”.
Makes their disciples twice the religious sons of hell that they are.
Looks down on unconverted people and struggling Christians.
Makes up manmade religious rules and obligations and imposes them on everybody.
Plots with other religious people to “kill Jesus”.
Neglects mercy, justice, faithfulness and love in the name of religious traditions and obligations.
Puts on a fake religious show to impress people– plays the hypocrite.
Is repulsed by Spirit led worship.
Lays heavy burdens of religious obligation on people rather than helping and caring for them.
Does not walk the talk (but they sure dress well).
Prays long prayers in public on street corners so everyone can see how holy they are.
Focuses on the letter only, without spiritual light from the Holy Spirit.
Judges the inner motivations of the redeemed, rather than judging self.
Greedy rather than blessing and helping others.
Persecutes God’s prophets, wants them to shut up. Wants them dead.
Interested in getting the praise of men rather than praise from God.
Has love of money.
Pridefully looks down on other Christians who are not performing as well as they are.
Exalts self!
Boasts in accomplishments, works, and puffed-up knowledge.
Jealous of what God is doing with other Christians.
Expects everyone to keep their rituals and traditions.
Not really concerned about the lost.
Loves traditions rather than people.
Seeks to protect its religious position and place of good favor with the government.
Justifies and defends itself!
Unjustly accuses the saints who speak and love the truth.

  1. Amen!
We need to be mindful also that the “widows” are those whose “Husband” is no longer alive; i.e. the Husband being Christ and they are without their First-Love. We must restore our brethren back to their Husband. And the “orphans” are those without a “Father” and we must care for them and restore them back to The Father of the Fatherless, etc. One can be “widowed’ or “orphaned” through many means and forms, but that is pointless since He is the Mighty Counselor and the Everlasting Father yearning to draw nigh unto us as we draw near unto Him. And as Christ said, the “poor” we will always have with us, but He is THE thing that is needful and we must lift Him up to all in order to draw them to Him. Oiur Redeemer lives!!

  2. This verse is the only time “religion” is spoken of in a posative light in scripture. It does have both a litteral and spiritual rendering. God bless both of you T.J. and Loretta for your teachings.

    Peace be with you

  3. Amen Loretta, thanks for sharing that! Also, and you have covered it in other posts, in relation to the TRUE Israel, that being the actual domain of the Lord, and his servants/disciples, etc It really puts context in the duality of Christ Jesus being sent to the lost “sheep” of Israel, etc… Paul speaking of all of Israel being saved….Love when Jesus says that He “KNOWS” those which are His. May we be about the Lord’s heart and know them as well, and serve them through the many modes and means necessary to give of His unconditional love. Thanks again sister.

Thank you Bill and our Lord’s continued grace and blessings to you as well

  4. 1Jn 3:17-19 But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.

Jas 2:15-16 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

It is a sad time in my walk when I forget the needs of other brethren because I am so focused on my work, my my life, me – the guy who is suppose to be dead with Christ. God help us all to give our lives away in every way – to follow in Christs footsteps.

  5. Corrupt and defiled (The Harlot Church): Makes covenant with the world, stained by the world, loves the world, fornicates with the world, IS ONE with the world.

Pure and undefiled (the pure faithful church): Makes covenant with Christ, keeps itself UNSTAINED BY THE WORLD, purified from the world, separate from the world, comes OUT of the world.
