Truth or flesh

“I am …….. the truth”…John14:6

…they refused to love the truth…(esv) 2 Thes.2:10

For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Rom.8:5-8

For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ. Gal.1:10

Once I was questioned by a pastor concerning my “interest in truth”. I was so shocked by the question, I could not think of what to say besides, “Yes.” Now I wish I had answered, “I love Him; He is everything to me.”

You cannot hear Truth without your flesh being offended. You must kill your flesh to receive Truth. You cannot speak forth Truth without the flesh of others being offended. You will either live for flesh or Truth. You will either love flesh or Truth. You will either serve flesh or Truth. You will either please flesh or Truth. You will either side with flesh or Truth. You will either defend flesh or Truth. You will either choose flesh or Truth. You have to choose.

  1. Wonderful post, Loretta.

On truth and believing, I quote Josh MacDowell from one of his books I was reading which asks the question: “Is what you believe true because you believe it or do you believe it because it’s true?”

I use that line in my street evangelism encounters. It’s quite thought provoking, yes?

  2. Hello Paul! As far as “truth” in an apologetics sense, or contrasting believing in ‘truth’ vs. believing in relativism, this question well applies. But this scripture, this post, and this exhortation to ‘choose ye this day’, is spoken directly to those who profess to be Christ’s.
