Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “Repent and turn away from your idols and turn your faces away from all your abominations.” Ez.14:6 (Ezekiel)

“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Matt.3:2 (John the Baptist)

“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Matt.4:17 (Jesus)

“repent of this wickedness of yours”..Acts 8:22 (Peter)

“repent and do the deeds you did at first”..Rev.2:5 (Jesus)

One time I heard a pastor teach that we don’t have to repent, that repentance is something we did back way back when we became Christians. He actually disparaged the idea of repenting again or continuously. But way before Jesus sent His disciples to the pagan nations with the gospel, God was continuously sending messages to His own people to repent. Isaiah’s message to God’s people was repent. Ezekiel told God’s people to repent. John the Baptist’s message to God’s people was repent. Jesus said to God’s people, repent! Repentance is not just for those who are hearing the gospel for the first time, repentance is for God’s people too. Repentance is for the house of God. That would be us. God wants us to live the gospel and repentance is a huge part of the gospel. God calls us to repent because we need to. God wants us to turn onto the narrow road if we find ourselves wandering on the wide road. (The way is difficult; we have to repent to keep on the narrow path.) He wants us to change our mind from false beliefs to Truth. He wants us to turn from sin to Him with all our heart. Repentance is required for entrance into His kingdom. Repentance prepares us for His coming.

Great post, and incredibly important point. It is the beginning of humility to understand our own need for momentary repentance. That’s how I think of it now. That every moment I’m in Christ, and walking in the Light, and when I sin, there is a dimming of that Light, that fellowship with the Father and the Son. So I must immediately go before them and confess and forsake that sin. That is our wonderful heritage in Christ, that we have the perfect High Priest now, who knows us, and we can turn to Him constantly to be washed and cleansed by His blood whenever we do sin.

Thank you for your faithfulness, and Christ’s blessings on you today.

  2. hello Brother. Yes i agree with you what you wrote. Some religious leaders (pastors) teach we do not need to repent. I am so very glad we have our wonderful High Priest who intercedes for us. And, it is His kindness that leads us to repentance. God bless you A.Brother. I am very thankful for the fellowship with one another that the Lord has provided for us all.
