Division

“Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division.” Matt. 12:51

“So it will be at the end of the age; the angels will come forth and take out (separate, sever) the wicked from among the righteous”..Matt. 13:49

“It will come about in all the land”, Declares the LORD, “That two parts in it will be cut off and perish; But the third will be left in it”. Zech. 13:8

God’s math: We learn all about multiplication in God’s economy, often assuming He is only interested in the increase of numbers. But God is much more about division. The entire Bible is about God dividing out, separating, cutting off and cutting apart. Another assumption is that His separation of the righteous and the wicked is occurring between “us” in here  and “them” over there– those heathen unbelievers. But His dividing is happening right here within us, right inside our own camp. He divides up His own people and those who claim to be. Inside visible Christianity there are disciples, undecided multitudes, Scribes, Pharisees, Sadducees, Herods & John the Baptists, Judases, Jacobs & Esaus, Davids & Sauls, Noah’s & earth dwellers, wheat & weeds, sheep & goats, wolves, evil birds and doves, good & bad fish, Ahabs Jezebels and Elijah’s, and so on. As in times of old, He fully intends to cut off the wicked and separate out His righteous that reside within the camp that professes His name. He starts with a huge number. But after He separates, cuts off and divides, a much smaller number remains.
