God’s Job or Our Job?

Some outline notes from my journal from a short talk given by Bill Babione, National Campus Director for Campus Crusade for Christ, in Albania. Bill is the husband of my most beloved friend and sister in the Lord, Wini.

The Great Commission: Is it God’s job or our job?
By: Bill Babione

What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, even as the Lord gave opportunity to each one. I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth. So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth. Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor. For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building. 1 Cor.3: 5-9.

We are workers with God. We do our part but only God gives the results. We plant and water but God makes the seed and makes it grow. It is God’s mission.

No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day. John 6:44.

God draws men to Himself.

To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and he leads them out. John 10:3.

He knows His sheep; they hear His voice.

Therefore, we are Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making an appeal through us…2 Cor. 5:20.

We are Christ’s ambassadors.

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. John 15:4-5.

Our part is to abide in Christ, then we will bear fruit. This is a promise!

For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there without watering the earth and making it bear and sprout, and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; so shall My word be which goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:10-11.

His Word will accomplish it’s purpose. He will accomplish what He sends His word to do. We plant and water. He will bring the harvest.
