How do people become saved? Do they make an intellectual assent, deciding to agree to the facts, and then they are in? Do they have a feeling or emotional experience, and then they are a child of God? Does a man make himself a Christian? Our understanding of this greatly affects how we “do evangelism”; what we say to people and how we present the gospel.
Mike Ratliff over at Possessing the Treasure, recently preached his first sermon, in which he answers this question and teaches us, according to scripture, just how God saves people. You can read it, or click the link on his page for the audio version.
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9.
Salvation is from the Lord. Jonah 2:9.
Loretta,
I am deeply humbled that you linked to my first sermon. I pray that God will be glorified as people read or listen to it and that He will do good work in their hearts through it.
In Christ

Yes, and thanks, Mike!
A good read.
At John 1:14, we read, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us.” The word ‘dwelt,’ (Strong’s #4637) is a word only used once in the scriptures, and it means, Tabernacled. So Jesus Tabenacled among us.
amen! wonderful truth!
